We had the chance to hang out with Lisa from MustangSallyTwo recently! We had a quick photoshoot and dished about her career and life as an influencer. She is an exceptional woman who is carving out her own place in the world and we are excited to share her story!

Tell us about your day job!

I am a CPA, CA and I work in Senior Management in a public accounting firm that specializes in dealing with owner-managed businesses. I specialize in providing audit and corporate tax services so I deal with a variety of different clients in different industries. I also spend a lot of my time mentoring and training our younger team members.

How do you balance your career and being an influencer?

I sleep less and I don't watch as much TV lol. In all seriousness I love both so I have just found ways to make it work. When it is tax season at the office I blog less and my followers are ok with that because I have always been upfront with them. When work is not so crazy I am fortunate that I can focus more on the blog. I also started working for a great new firm that allows me to take some extra time off if I need it when we aren't as busy. I also learned early on that I wasn't going to be able to do everything, so I decided to focus on what I was good at and leave the rest to a great group of people I collaborate with such as my photographers.

What is the most rewarding part of being an influencer? What is the hardest part?

Being an influencer has had such a huge impact on my life.  It has allowed me to do things I would never have imagined 2 years ago. What motivates and inspires me is the messages I get from women telling me how I have helped them or inspired them to feel better about themselves, to work on their self confidence or to try a piece of clothing they thought they would never wear. I also love working with brands to educate them on things like fit and sizing, particularly in the size 24 and up market. I get to use my voice to impact change which is so needed in the plus size fashion industry. The hardest part is not letting the trolls or hurtful comments on social media impact you. I have pretty thick skin but sometimes it is just a lot and the people that hide behind their computer screens and project their insecurities onto you don't realize that I am just a person too. I also have feelings and insecurities. Just because I found self love and acceptance doesn't meant I don't have a bad day every now and then.

What would you say is your passion in life?

Ultimately I would love to combine my love of accounting and working with entrepreneurs to grow their businesses into my own business that involves fashion and design. I am very passionate about size diversity in both what is offered in the market and what we see in the media so to create my own brand where I can offer the sizes and styles I want would be my dream come true. And I would love to employ a group of plus size women who could help me make impact change.

What role has fashion and style played in your life?

I have been plus size for most of my life but I have always had a love of fashion. I realized after I started blogging and as part of my self love journey that my interest in it was stifled at a young age because I was overweight and so much emphasis was put on being thin. It stayed deep in my subconscious until I decided to stop fixating on losing weight.  Then slowing but surely it came to the surface and I haven't looked back. I always found a way to dress well even when I was obsessed with being thin because it was important to me.  But now my style has definitely evolved and I much more of a risk taker when it comes to fashion. And also love accessories and bags and home décor so those are definitely reflected in my personal sense of style.

If you could tell your younger self one thing, what would you say?

Being thin is NOT the answer to being happy! I was obsessed with this notion for so long that I didn't start truly living my life till I was almost 40 years old. Sure I was well educated, a professional and had a successful career but that's all I had. And over the years I started to resent it. Now I have fallen back in love with it and I have this amazing other part of my life that fulfills my creative artistic side along with amazing friends, fulfilling relationships and endless opportunities. I live my life with no regret and I couldn't be happier.
